Your Skin Consultation at That Skin Clinic

A considered approach to understanding your skin

At That Skin Clinic, we believe great skin care starts with understanding your skin, not simply choosing a treatment from a menu.

Your skin is individual. Its history, sensitivity, pigmentation, lifestyle, medications, previous treatments and current concerns all influence how we approach it.

Our consultations are designed to give us the time to properly assess your skin, understand what you want to achieve and create a treatment plan that is appropriate for you.

We take a skin-first, evidence-informed approach: assess carefully, treat thoughtfully and refer when something requires medical assessment.

  • What happens during your consultation?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know your skin.

    1. We listen

    We start with you.

    We'll discuss:

    • What you're concerned about
    • What you'd like to improve
    • Your skin history
    • Previous treatments
    • Your current skincare routine
    • Products you've used
    • Sun exposure and lifestyle factors
    • Relevant medications and health information
    • Any previous reactions or sensitivities
    • Your expectations and goals

Sometimes the most important part of a consultation is simply having enough time to understand what's actually happening with your skin.

    2. We assess your skin

Your skin is assessed both visually and, where appropriate, with clinical photography and dermoscopy.

We may assess characteristics such as:

    • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone
    • Redness and vascular appearance
    • Texture
    • Congestion
    • Dryness and dehydration
    • Skin-barrier function
    • Signs of irritation or inflammation
    • Scarring
    • Visible lesions or areas that require further assessment

Where dermoscopy is appropriate, it can provide additional visual information about a particular area of skin.

Dermoscopy is used at That Skin Clinic as an assessment and documentation tool. It does not replace a medical examination or provide a medical diagnosis.

Our role is to recognise when something appears suitable for cosmetic skin management and, importantly, when something should be assessed by a medical practitioner before we proceed.

  • We don't diagnose what isn't ours to diagnose

    Your safety comes first.

Our clinicians are trained to recognise when a skin concern falls outside the scope of a cosmetic or dermal treatment.

If we see something that is new, changing, unusual or requires medical assessment, we refer you to a GP, dermatologist or another appropriately qualified medical practitioner.

That doesn't necessarily mean that something is serious.

It simply means we won't guess.

Instead, we will explain what we've observed, why we'd like it medically assessed and what we recommend you do next.

If appropriate and with your consent, we can provide relevant clinical photographs and assessment information to assist with your medical appointment.

    Why this matters

Some skin concerns can look similar to the untrained eye. A cosmetic skin clinic should never give you false reassurance simply because an area appears suitable for treatment.

    Our approach is:

Observe. Document. Treat when appropriate. Refer when necessary.

  • What can we help with?

Our focus is on improving the health, appearance and function of the skin through personalised, evidence-informed skin management.

Depending on your individual needs and suitability, your treatment plan may address concerns such as:

    • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone
    • Sun-related skin changes
    • Acne and congestion
    • Post-inflammatory marks
    • Redness
    • Texture and roughness
    • Scarring
    • Skin ageing and loss of radiance
    • Dehydration and compromised skin barrier
    • General skin health and maintenance

Your treatment plan may include professional treatments, home skincare, lifestyle recommendations or a combination of these.

We don't believe in treating everyone the same.

  • Your treatment plan

After assessing your skin, we'll explain what we're seeing and talk you through your options.

    Your plan may include:

    Professional treatments

Depending on your skin and suitability, this may include treatments such as peels, skin needling, LED, laser or other advanced skin therapies offered by That Skin Clinic.

  • Parking:

The best parking is underneath Sirocco Resort via First Street. Please note this is limited to 3 hours free parking. Alternatively, the Park N Go Carpark opposite Sirocco Plaza is another option.

  • Arrival:

Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to ensure all consent and medical forms are completed and up to date.

We kindly ask that you do not attend your appointment if you are feeling unwell or have any signs of infection or viral lesions within the treatment area.

  • Cancellation Policy

Your appointment time is important to us, and we kindly request a minimum of 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. This allows us the opportunity to offer the appointment to another client.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will incur a cancellation fee. Clients arriving more than 15 minutes late may not be able to be accommodated, and the same fees may apply.

Appointment Preparation

  • Child Free & Guest Policy

To ensure the safest and most relaxing environment for all clients, we kindly ask that appointments be attended alone where possible.

Many of our treatments, including advanced laser procedures, require full concentration and a controlled clinical environment. Additional guests or children within treatment rooms can create distractions and compromise safety standards.

We also frequently have clients attending for relaxation-focused treatments and facials, so maintaining a calm and peaceful atmosphere is important to us.

As our waiting area is often unattended, we are unfortunately unable to supervise children. For the safety, comfort, and consideration of all clients, we kindly request that childcare arrangements are made prior to attending your appointment.

This policy has also been strongly recommended by our insurance provider to help us maintain the highest standards of care and safety.
