Dull, Dry & Dehydrated Skin
Dull, Dry & Dehydrated Skin Treatments Sunshine Coast
Skin feeling dry, rough, congested or simply not looking as fresh and healthy as it used to? Dullness can develop for many reasons from dehydration and a compromised skin barrier to dead skin-cell build-up, environmental exposure, congestion or an unsuitable skincare routine.
At That Skin Clinic in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, our professional facials are tailored to what your skin needs on the day.
Rather than following the same facial protocol for every client, we assess your skin and select from professional enzymes, AHA and BHA exfoliation, hydration, masks, extractions, LED therapy and barrier-supportive treatments to create a facial specifically for your skin.
What Causes Dull, Dry or Dehydrated Skin?
Healthy skin naturally renews itself, but several factors can affect how smooth, hydrated and radiant it appears.
Common concerns include:
- Dull or lacklustre skin
- Dry, flaky or rough skin
- Dehydration
- Uneven skin texture
- Congestion and blocked pores
- Blackheads and whiteheads
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Uneven skin tone
- Excess oil or combination skin
- Superficial pigmentation
- Skin that feels tight or uncomfortable
- A compromised skin barrier
- Skin that simply needs a refresh
Sometimes the answer is exfoliation. Other times, more exfoliation is exactly what your skin doesn't need.
Understanding that difference is why our facials begin with an assessment of your skin rather than automatically applying the strongest treatment available.
Tailored Facials at That Skin Clinic
Our facials are designed around skin function and your individual concerns, rather than a predetermined sequence of products.
Your treatment may focus on hydration and barrier support, controlled exfoliation, congestion, texture, brightening or a combination of concerns.
Depending on your skin, we may incorporate:
Enzyme Treatments
Professional enzyme treatments provide a controlled form of superficial exfoliation and can help remove accumulated dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.
They can be particularly useful for skin that appears dull, rough or congested, helping create a smoother and more refreshed appearance.
Enzymes may also be selected when we want to encourage gentle skin renewal without immediately progressing to stronger acids.
AHA Treatments
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are water-soluble acids commonly used to exfoliate the superficial layers of the skin.
Depending on the acid selected and your individual skin, AHA treatments may help improve the appearance of:
- Dullness
- Dry or rough texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Superficial pigmentation
- Fine lines
- General skin clarity
Different AHAs behave differently within the skin, which is why acid selection and strength should be tailored rather than treating every skin the same way.
BHA Treatments
Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), most commonly salicylic acid, is oil-soluble and can be particularly useful when the concern involves excess oil and congestion.
BHA treatments may be considered for:
- Congested skin
- Blackheads
- Oily or combination skin
- Blocked pores
- Breakout-prone skin
- Uneven texture
AHA and BHA treatments may sometimes be used individually or as part of a broader professional treatment plan depending on your skin.
Hydration & Barrier Support
Dry and dehydrated skin are not necessarily the same thing. Dry skin generally lacks sufficient oil, while dehydrated skin lacks water. It is possible to have oily skin that is also dehydrated.
When the skin barrier is compromised, your skin may also feel tight, rough, sensitive or increasingly reactive. In these situations, our priority may be restoring hydration and supporting barrier function rather than exfoliating the skin further.
Your facial may incorporate hydrating serums, nourishing treatments, professional masks and carefully selected products designed to support a healthier skin environment.
Extractions & Congestion
Where appropriate, professional extractions may be incorporated into a facial to address blackheads and selected areas of congestion.
We combine this with appropriate exfoliation and home-care recommendations rather than aggressively squeezing or stripping the skin.
Professional Masks
Depending on your skin, we may incorporate professional masks designed to support hydration, calming, skin renewal or overall skin condition.
This may include collagen fleece mask, oxygenating compression masks, enzyme-based treatments and other professional treatment masks selected according to your skin's needs.
LED Light Therapy
LED therapy can also be incorporated into selected facials to complement the treatment and support the skin.
The wavelength and treatment approach will depend on your skin concern and what we're trying to achieve.
What Is the Difference Between a Facial and a Chemical Peel?
A facial doesn't need to be aggressive to be effective. Our tailored facials may incorporate gentle enzymes or acids, but the overall treatment is designed around several aspects of skin health, including cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, barrier support, relaxation and professional home-care recommendations.
A chemical peel is a more targeted treatment where a specific chemical solution is applied to create a controlled response within the skin.
If your skin would benefit from a more advanced peel, we'll discuss this with you rather than automatically progressing to a stronger treatment.
What If My Skin Is Sensitive?
Sensitive or reactive skin doesn't automatically mean you can't have professional skin treatments. It does mean the treatment needs to be appropriate.
If your skin barrier appears compromised, inflamed or highly reactive, we may avoid acids altogether and focus instead on gentle cleansing, hydration, calming treatments, LED and barrier support.
Sometimes improving skin means doing less, not more.
Professional Facials Aren't Just About Relaxation
A facial can certainly feel relaxing, but at That Skin Clinic, it also has a purpose. We use your appointment as an opportunity to assess how your skin is functioning, identify what may be contributing to concerns and select professional treatments accordingly.
That might mean an enzyme and hydration facial one month and an AHA or BHA-based treatment at another appointment.
Your skin changes with seasons, hormones, lifestyle, skincare and previous treatments. Your facial should be able to change with it.
Which Facial Is Right for Me?
You don't need to know. That's our job.
If you're looking at a treatment menu wondering whether your skin needs an enzyme, AHA, BHA, peel, hydration treatment or LED, simply book a Skin Consultation with Tailored Facial. We'll assess your skin at your appointment and select the most appropriate treatment based on what we see.
This makes our Tailored Facial particularly suitable for clients wanting to improve:
- Dullness
- Dryness and dehydration
- Congestion
- Rough or uneven texture
- Blackheads
- Uneven skin tone
- Mild superficial pigmentation
- General skin health and maintenance
For more complex concerns such as persistent acne, melasma, rosacea, significant pigmentation or advanced skin ageing, we may recommend a consultation and a more structured treatment plan.
